What is asthma?
Airways that react, narrow and inflame.
Asthma is a long-term condition in which the airways become inflamed and overly sensitive, tightening in response to triggers such as allergens, exercise, cold air or infections and causing wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath.
Asthma symptoms often come and go, which is why a normal result on one day doesn’t rule it out. Testing that measures airway inflammation and airway sensitivity helps confirm the diagnosis.
Well-controlled asthma should rarely interrupt daily life. If you’re using a reliever inhaler often or waking at night with symptoms, your treatment may need adjusting.

Symptoms
Signs of asthma.
Asthma typically causes wheezing, chest tightness, coughing and shortness of breath that come and go, and are often worse at night, early in the morning or after exercise.

Diagnosis
Testing that confirms the diagnosis.
Asthma is diagnosed with spirometry and bronchodilator response testing, and Medimprove adds FeNO to measure airway inflammation and methacholine challenge testing when symptoms suggest asthma but spirometry is normal.
Having each of these tests in one building means most patients get a clear answer — and a treatment plan — in a single visit.
